Record Aging

The easiest way to clear old computer records out of the MetaLAN database is to enable Record Aging.  Record Aging marks a computer record inactive when a computer has not been detected for a set amount of time.  The record will no longer be displayed in the Computer Browser, License Manager or standard reports.

If running Standalone Mode:

  • In MetaLAN Administrator, enable Record Aging under "Settings/Scan"
  • Set the desired number of days

If running in Server Mode:

  • In the MetaLAN Server Management Console, under "Scan Settings" enable "Mark Old Computer Records Inactive"
  • Set the desired number of days

The records can still be viewed using the reports for Deleted computers etc.

Mark Individual Records Inactive

In MetaLAN Administrator 2.5.6 and later you can mark individual records inactive.  In the Computer Browser right click the desired computer record and select "Edit/Inactivate Selected records" from the context menu.  Multiple records can be selected.  this works for both Server and Standalone Mode.  This functionality can be disabled using group policy with the ADM file included in the MetaLAN installation.

The records can still be viewed using the reports for Deleted computers etc.

Clear the MetaLAN Database

If you would like to clear all information form the MetaLAN database you can delete the database and it will be recreated automatically. This method clears all data and the records cannot be viewed using the reports for Deleted computers etc.

If running Standalone Mode:

  • Close MetaLAN Administrator
  • Navigate to "\My Documents\MetaLAN\Data"
  • Rename or delete the "mls.mdb" file
  • Restart MetaLAN Administrator and scan the network to repopulate the database

If running Server Mode

  • Close all instances of MetaLAN Administrator
  • Use the MetaLAN Server Management Console to stop the MetaLAN Server Service
  • Navigate to the "Probe$" share on the MetaLAN Server computer
  • Rename or delete the "mls.mdb" file
  • Use the MetaLAN Server Management Console to start the MetaLAN Server Service
